FEED YOUR MIND AT THE MUSEUM OF MOBILE

Learning Lunch Schedule (pdf)

Beginning in November, the Museum of Mobile will host “Learning Lunch,” a noontime discussion series on the history of Mobile and south Alabama, on the second Wednesday of each month. Bring your sack lunch and enjoy complimentary beverages provided by the Museum of Mobile. Admission to these exciting programs will be free of charge.

The curators at the Museum of Mobile have assembled an impressive and diverse list of topics for future Learning Lunch programs including lectures on World War I and memory, the musical traditions of Mobile’s Mardi Gras celebrations, a retrospective on Press-Register cartoonist J.D. Crowe, and biographical sketches of historic figures like Mobile’s first Archbishop, Michael Portier, and newspaper editor John Forsyth.

In addition to these regularly-scheduled Learning Lunch programs (see attached list), the Museum of Mobile will also hold several “special editions” throughout the year. These include a discussion of the campaign for the commission form of government in Mobile in 1910-1911, a special lecture on the forthcoming Mobile County Bicentennial, and a screening of “In the Path of the Storms,” a new documentary about Hurricane Katrina and south Mobile County.

David E. Alsobrook, Ph.D, director of the Museum of Mobile, said: “Although we are Mobile’s History Museum, our new Learning Lunch series offers our patrons a wide range of interesting topics far beyond traditional history. This series is designed to reflect the rich diversity of our city, and we feel that these monthly events will become very popular in downtown Mobile.”
