This invaluable work covers the architectural history of Mobile as it evolved from the French Colonial period to the end of World War I. The author traced changes over the years in construction methods, styles of buildings and in the city plan. Both existing and destroyed buildings are featured. 332 photographs, architectural drawings and HABS (Historic American Buildings Survey) collection.

The Mobile Cadets: A Century of Honor and Fidelity edited by William S. Coker; Anonymous manuscript attributed to William English Mickle $15.95
Vivid account of the military company which existed from 1845-1945. Provides wealth of historical, military and genealogical material. Half revolves around participation in the Civil War, detailing descriptions of engagements in battle. History of Barton Academy by Bama Wathan Watson $16.95
This 1971 hardcover volume is the published work of Ms. Watson’s thesis, the purpose of which was to collect, organize and interpret the historical data of Mobile, AL’s monument to public education, Barton Academy. The work pulls together an interesting assortment of fact and becomes a unique reference guide to the state’s oldest institution for public education. Hardcover, 81 pages.

Iron Lace by Annie Shillito Howard; Drawings by William N. Howard $14.95
Exploring the various artistic styles of many beautiful examples of ironwork in the city of Mobile, this little volume evokes many images of Old Mobile. Pen-and-ink drawings accompany the text. Jacket design by Eugene Walter. Published in 1988 by HB Publications. Paperback, 63 pages.

Story of Mobile by Caldwell Delaney $26.95
The colorful story of this charming port city takes the reader on a look at American history, not from the viewpoint as being settled on the Atlantic coast; rather, the view is from the south, looking north and east. Chronologically ordered and presented in an easy-to-read format, the book begins with the Spanish explorers and travels through to the new Mobile of the 20th century. 170 pages; b&w photos, maps, illustrations.

Deep South by Caldwell Delaney $16.95
Fearing stories of the Cotton Kingdom in Alabama would forever by lost with its eventual ruin, a group of young Mobilians set out on a series of expeditions into plantation country, with the hope of recording stories of the past. The result of their findings are in this hardcover tome, complete with pen-and-ink sketches by Frank Kearley. Originally published in 1942, this edition is from 1981.

Mobile Sextet by Caldwell Delaney $16.95
These six papers were presented and read to the Alabama Historical Association from 1952-1971, at their request. Raphael Semmes by Caldwell Delaney $24.95
This compilation, edited by Delaney, is a treasure trove of “Documents Pertaining to the Charges Preferred Against him by the United States Government with a Pictorial History of the Voyages of the Sumter and Alabama and the Alabama Claims Commission.” Published by the Museum of the City of Mobile, 1978 (currently the Museum of Mobile). Includes facsimiles of original documents, letters, news clippings and illustrations. Hardcover.

Complete with photographs and biographies of the Queens who reigned during this time period, this guide to Mobile Mardi Gras is a treasure itself. How we Found the Site of Fort Louis de la Mobile by Louis de Vendel Chaudron $5.99
This pamphlet, from the archives of the Iberville Historical Society and the Museum of the City of Mobile, is a reprint of the paper delivered to Chaudron to the Society. The expedition was one whose purpose was to “reach the facts…and stir up an interest on the part of our
people” and was begun in 1902. 8 pages.
